on nature
and Painting

Having always enjoyed observing nature and the world around me, my painting provides me an optimum method for recording such impressions. My work focuses primarily on the beautiful
combinations of colors and forms that I am exposed to every day. I begin each painting with simple iconography that I build upon layer by layer. It is this layering which allows my simple
statements to be presented with balance and subtlety.

There are distinct relationships that exist between each piece and the real world surroundings that inspired them. Whenever I walk outside I always try to find something that I had never noticed
before—even if it is only a small thing. It might be a new pattern on the back of a tree or a stone that rests in an interesting position next to a flower. I am continually seeking to express
these subtle nuances in my work.

Through this process my paintings essentially develop their own voice and message. I am always amazed that when I have completed a painting, its voice continues to show me new
things each time I view it. From this reciprocal relationship with my previously completed works, my perceptions of the world continue to grow.
