ARTIST STATEMENT

My work primarily consists of mark making, drawings, rich color and layered textures on paper. This work evokes a visceral and unconfirmed energy. One that is found in the unconsciousness of our movement, as we go about the everyday. The subject matter varies and is often rooted in biographical and fictional histories, narrative and metaphor associated with transformation and change.
Recently, I have been incorporating more of the figurative element within my work. Many of the figures are anthropomorphic, mythological and whimsical in nature. The combination and use of various mediums give the work a print-like quality. The layered and textured surfaces of the paintings create a dynamic interplay between what is often perceived as obvious, and what is truly revealing.
